DIY–Plant Stand + Glass = Table

Last week our lawn mower died, our weed eater stopped working and could not be repaired and the spring on our garage broke.  I’m sure glad things come in three and no  more than that!  We had the garage door fixed and bought a new mower and weed eater/edger.  In May we  bought a new barbeque and the old one has been sitting in the garage along with all other non-working yard items.  I called the metal pick-up.  They come and take all your metal away for free.  Now my garage has more space and that’s when I ran across an old plant stand and a glass table top.  Hmmm, what to do…

I made a corner table for my downstairs bathroom.  I never tire of the ivy wallpaper and I like how the plant stand ties in.

I simply placed the glass ($1.00 at a garage sale) on top of the stand.  It’s heavy enough that it won’t fall off.

I also like how you can look through the glass.  It makes the bathroom feel a bit bigger.

The vase is one of my favorites and one that I found at Marshalls.  I can’t remember how much it was but I know I got change back from a twenty dollar bill.  Add a glass baby and I’m happy.

And there you have it.  For something so simple and easy, this table has become one of  favorite items in my house.  Have you completed simple projects that you’ve fallen in love with, that floats your boat, that you look at and say Oh Yeah?

Striping A Basket

Happy Monday, again!  I went into this weekend with no plans and it turned into one of the best!   Friday night the “locals”, 3 of my neighbors and the hubs and I ended up going out to a restaurant and bar.  The decision to go was completely random and impromptu.  Nothing beats laughter with friends when you don’t expect it.

I found a few minutes to figure out how to organize hubby’s hair products.  Ever since I revamped my 3 drawer dresser with the faux tile top to hold all my cosmetics and hair products, I’ve kept up staying organized.  But his stuff is a different story.  It doesn’t matter that there is space below in the cupboard, the products are going to stay on the counter close at hand.  Trust me, I know this after 31 years of marriage.  I solved the dilema by taking an old basket I had on hand and updated it with a few stripes to match the new wall color {I have not shared}.

I came across the basket the other day when I was cleaning out the woman cave closet {looking for the rub-n-buff which I never found}.  I used some blue painters tape to mark off the lines and added 3 light coats of Rustoleum gray gloss spray paint.

I love these kind of projects that are quick and cheap.  Have you ever added stripes to a basket?

I went thrifting on Saturday and picked up a few items to add to my white accessory obsession.  I’ll share later this week.  I also picked up a few items and started a few projects which hopefully won’t take forever to do.

I found a chair for $2.99 and lightly sanded and used some wood filler on it , but that’s as far as I’ve gotten.  I also picked this little bunny up for  50 cents.  He needs some TLC.

Bathroom Medicine Cabinet…Inspired!

I finally cleaned out my son’s bathroom.  Since he’s in his 3rd year of college I figure it’s high time.  And boy did I get rid of some needless junk.  I also cleaned out the medicine cabinet.  I wish I would of taken a picture before I emptied it, but I didn’t.  Oh well, plain white, you know what I mean?  Like this.

I have to be creative because my husband does not want me painting the wood.  Just to update a little bit, I took the shelves out and backed it with some blue and white scrapbook just for a nice touch.

Can you see it?  Just a very light blue and white.  As for the door I backed it with solid blue paper and added some inspirational words.  That way whoever opens the medicine cabinet will get a whole lot of positive!

So what do ya think?  Have you done any fun simple decorating lately?
