Memorial Day Salute

Today on Memorial Day, I just want to say thank you and God Bless to the men and women in the armed forces who have given thier lives to protect ours.  You will always be remembered.

Star Stripe Bucket 2

I made the stars and stripes bucket centerpiece and the tray with patriotic insert last July to celebrate the 4th. They were perfect for today. The only change I made was to use smaller branches.  The table cloth is actually the reverse side of a sailboat quilt used in my sons room when he was a baby.

Progressive Dinner + Tablescapes

Last weekend hubby and I had a great time.  Four houses, four meals and drinks and wonderful neighborhood friends.  I wish I would of taken pictures but I was having too much fun.

We started at Sharon’s with appetizers and a punch that really kicked the atmosphere into gear!  Next was our house and we had the salads.  We had Caprese salad and Caesar salad.  We also had a Bloody Mary bar complete with multiple flavors of mix and the extras’;  pickled onions, beans, asparagus, celery, and cubed cheese.  It was a hit! and really fun to do.  I did set a nice table and I did take a few pictures.

We have a small dining table but we happily seated 7, a little bit of a squeeze but the Bloody Marys’ helped!  I did a black, white, gold and silver theme.  I used both silver and gold chargers, alternating them around the table and also alternated the silver-gray or gold paper napkins, making them opposite of the charger color.  Down the center of the table is a cream runner dressed up in gold glam.

I found the dishes at Home Goods on clearance.  Salad plates $2.00 each, dinner plates $3.00 each.  What a good deal, right?  And I love black and white.

Next stop was K & B’s for a fabulous lasagna, crusty French bread and red wine.  And then on to T & R’s for a wonderful cake, caviar and brandy.

What a wonderful night with friends!

It’s getting oh so close to Christmas.  Are you ready?

Fall Decor: Mantel & Kitchen

Happy Monday everyone!  How was your weekend?  As I mentioned last Friday, I had two things I really wanted to  accomplish this weekend.  First, I needed to find a dress for my nieces upcoming wedding and second, I desperately needed to be put the garage back to some kind of order.  I’m happy to say I can check both off my list and bonus, I even competed two quick and simple DIY projects which I’ll  be sharing later this week.

Today I wanted to show you my Fall Mantel and the rest of the house decor I haven’t posted yet.  I don’t have any big garish decorations, just simple touches throughout the house.  And since my son is older now I don’t put up Halloween decor like witches, spiders, etc.

The mantel in the family room is always a challenge to decorate because the flat screen TV is directly above the fireplace and the speakers sit on the mantel shelf.  There’s really only a small amount of space on the left and right of the mantel so I try to use it correctly.

I found the vases at Michaels on clearance for $3.00 each and the pumpkins on a stick in the Albertsons grocery floral department.

Here’s the kitchen table.  It will continue to evolve as the flowers wilt and need to be tossed.

July 4 Centerpiece

Hi people :-)!  Hope you had a wonderful weekend.  I spent part of it inside because the rain just would not go away, but managed to work on a few things.  I’ll share some of that later this week.

Today was all about helping my son get his new computer up and running, buying new Samsung Galaxy 3 phones and creating a table centerpiece to celebrate July 4.

DIY Centerpiece

I really did this on the cheap.  Most of it was already in my crap craft closet except for the floral picks and headbands.

July 4 Centerpiece Supplies

You’ll also need some spray adhesive, spray paint and floral foam.  I used a green square floral foam and used a serrated knife to cut and round the edges so it would fit in the silver tin bucket.  Then I used the spray adhesive to glue the red shredded paper to the foam base.  I sprayed the branches with Rust Oleum paint; gloss white, gloss blue and apple red.  I basically crammed the branches once they were dry into the foam and then added the pics and star garland.  I slipped the headbands around the silver bucket leaving some of the tin color in between.  There you have it, quick and simple.  The tablecloth is actually a small quilted throw and the side you see is the liner.  Someone made it for me years ago.  Here’s a few more pics.
