Holiday Craft–Signage

You’ve all seen the cute signs on the web where they say inspiring words and it looks really cool?  I thought I’d give it a try, but it seems like I end up spinning it my way just because it doesn’t turn out the way it’s supposed to.  Whew!  I certainly hope that makes sense because my brain is fried.  I just got off work, the day job, and this post should of gone out last night but I was too busy lazy!

When I updated my spare room in to my “woman cave” I hung this  little white shelf which later fell off the well.  I was left with multiple pieces of white board and I kept them because I knew someday I would need one.  Well, today’s the day!  Because you just have to believe!

Believe Sign

I first spray painted the board gold, then took Elmer’s glue and made the word Believe and left it to dry over night.

Once I spray painted it white, it all kind of blended and after I hung it the word could barely be seen.

See what I mean?  So I outlined the letters in green glitter glue and I like it much better.  Side note:  Any tips on how to clean brick?

Believe Sign

Isn’t it cute?  I love this little corner of the fireplace hearth now.  I’ve had that snowman for years.  It’s probably as old as my son and he’s 21.  I did a post  not to long ago on the pinecones and cinnamon basket.  Since then, I changed from the basket to this tin.  If you want to see what I did to paint the old bucket like this go here.

This is my first of many crafts I’ve got to get done.  I’ve got little projects going all over the house and my sweet hubby asked me if I could possibly keep them confined to one room.  Lol!

I’m joining a couple of linky parties today, Hi Sugarplum, Beth @ Home Stories A 2 ZBetween Naps on the Porch and Be Colorful.  Be sure to check these awesome sites for inspiring ideas.

I wanted to also get another  post out because Layla is having a mantel decorating party, but that just might not happen until tomorrow.  Check back to see or subscribe and you’ll get an e=mail notification of all my posts.  Click on the button at the top to become an “avid follower”.

Updated Photo Boxes

I was “browsing” the house yesterday for a simple crafty thing to do; one that would be quick and useful.  I was in my craft room and spotted my dingy white photo boxes sitting on a shelf.

Photo Boxes white

I always have rolls of contact paper on hand so I took the tag plates off then covered them with a few of my favorites.  I really don;t use the boxes for photos, but I do have them full of stickers that I use for cards and scrapbooking.

DIY – Painted Vase

Happy Monday!  How was your weekend?  It was a pretty low key weekend for us; grocery shopping, I had some work from my work to catch up on, house cleaning, and of course, the Academy awards show, and I de-stressed by changing my craft room around (more on that in another post).  I also went snooping in my craft closet for something to do and here’s what I found, here’s what I did.

vase 2-2

Looks a bit like stained glass, but it isn’t and so simple to do.  I fhad ound this vase at Joann Fabrics with a 40% off coupon a couple of weeks ago.  It cost me 5 bucks.  I like the twist in the vase shape.  The small bottles of glass paint were in my basket of craft paint.

I decided to only use the green and blue.  Just dump the contents of the bottles into the bottom of the vase.  Turn the vase upside down and just turn it in circles.  The paint will slowly just drip down the sides.  Then you just flip the vase over to let the excess paint drip out.  I let mine sit for about 24 hours.

Pretty easy.  Looks great in my bathroom.  Now I just need to find the right thing to put inside, but for now I like it just the way it is.

Unique Ribbon Holder

I love it when the house is clean and I’m home alone and I can just putter around.  Today I ended up in the Spare Room which I updated last fall to also be a craft/reading room.  It seems like every time I’m in there I change something around; move a picture, take down a shelf, add a storage container.

Today, I was going through my craft cabinet and closet gathering stuff for some Valentines projects.  I have lots of ribbon that I keep packed away and I decided I wanted to keep some out and handy.  The goal today was to not leave the house so I needed to be creative.  First thing to do….go to Pinterest.

Love these ideas…

all nice but I didn’t have the items on hand so I got clever.  I have bunches of sprayed white branches on hand that I got from the gulley next to us.  Yep, you guessed it.  I made a ribbon rod with the branch and looped it through the shelf brackets .  Check it out!

Christmas Crafts That Didn’t Get Done

I think everyone must get to a point that says It is what it is, mo more.  That’s where I’m at now.  My last day of work for 2011 was yesterday.  While I was in the office slaving away my hubby and son finished the little bit of shopping that was left.

Today I thought I would share some of the crafts ideas that I never found time to do.  That’s okay as there always next year!  I’ve captured the pictures and ideas from Pinterest.  If your curious about Pinterest just click into it from the side column on this page.  Here we go!

Crafts – Holiday Before and After Pics

Happy Saturday!  Just finished some Christmas shopping.  Are you all done yet?  Hubby and I spent 3 hours wrapping presents last night and now we have more.

I shared a Holiday Tour of our home yesterday.  I thought it would be good to take a moment and share with you some before and after pics of a couple of items you saw.  Oh, the wonder of spray paint!

First, the 3 reindeer in my Living room.  I picked these cuties up for $2.00 each at Rite Aid.  Didn’t they turn out cute?  I love the little curly ribbon I added around their necks.

I also found 3 silver fleck candle stands on a clearance shelf at Ace hardware.  Add a $5.00 coupon and they were pretty much free.  I spray painted them a soft blue to match the living room decor and added some white scented candles.

Have you changed up anything up with a little spray paint lately?

Emergency Room Visit

Hi All –

Ever have one of those Saturdays where you wake up and just know it’s a day that you’re going to get lots done and then BAM!  Something happens? That was yesterday for me.

It was a cold but nice Saturday morning.  It snowed a small bit on Friday night and then froze .  Hubby and I decided to take Divot for a walk to the neighborhood espresso stand and get Dirty Chai Teas.  The sidewalks were a bit slippery but we were careful.  Then we crossed the parking lot and my foot hit the ground, I slipped and couldn’t move.  My left arm was full of pain.  Hubby got me to the sidewalk but I couldn’t go ant further.  He went home and got the car.

Long story short, I ended up in the Emergency room for 7 hours.  The x-rays showed part of my wrist bone had literally broken off and was now sitting just to the left of the rest of the bone and they needed to put it back.   They had to give me Profotol.  You know?  That’s the drug Michael Jackson took.  Anyway, I was given enough, based on my weight, to put me out for approximately 10 minutes.  The Doctor needed that much time to place the piece of bone back in position and put a splint on my arm.  I have to say, it was really weird when I woke up.  I guess I was only out for those 10 minutes but when I woke up I felt like I had slept for 8 hours and I felt so refreshed.  Like I said, really weird.

The cat scan and additional x-rays show some of the fragmented bone is still floating around and I have multiple fractures from my wrist to my elbow.  I have to see an orthopedic surgeon as I will need to have pins or a plate put in.  My hubby is so great.  I can’t even open a pill bottle…..I am so pitiful.

I am so bummed.  I’m in the middle of making crafts and my most favorite thing to do this time of year is decorate.  😦  I had big plans to share so much with you.  That said, I will be improvising by sharing articles and info I find and the posts will be fewer.  I hope you don’t mind.

Hope everyone is getting ready for the big turkey day this week.  I have some info on folding napkins for you tomorrow.

Drab To Fab Vase

Hi Everyone!  I’ve gotten in this habit of checking out the clearance aisle of several stores each week and it’s paying off.  My 10 minute stops include Marshalls, TJ Max and Ross.  Last week I picked up this ugly brown stripe hard plastic vase at Marshalls for $3.50.

Mix Vase Branches Bedroom 002

I sprayed it with Rust Oleum’s primer for plastic , followed by a couple of coats of Rustoleum Heirloom White.  Here comes the fun part.  My husband worked clearing the gulley last week so I had lots of new branches to play with.  I sprayed a few white….love this.  Here’s the Before and After.

Nice transformation, right?  These pics were taken in my son’s bedroom who’s away at college.  I also took some of the vase and branches in my recently updated Spare Room.

Halloween / Fall Bookmarks with Paint Chips

Hello All!  I’ve been so focused on my 31 Days To Clutter Free Series that I’ve not had much chance to share much else.  Before Halloween gets past us I wanted to share some bookmarks I made.  They were quick to make and fun to give my nieces and sis-in-law when we had lunch a few weekends ago.

What do you do with all those paint chips you have stored away?

IMAG0923-1

If you have the larger chips like those in the picture grab those, some scrapbook paper, glue, ribbon, buttons, and stickers and here’s what you get.

IMAG0936-1

These aren’t really fallish, but I made them also.

IMAG0937-1

Here’s the front and back sides of a few of the bookmarks.

IMAG0939-1 IMAG0945-1 IMAG0941-1 IMAG0942-1 IMAG0944

It makes it so much more fun to cozy up with a book on a fall day when you have a fun bookmark to use!
