DIY – July 4 Placemats

I picked up some contact paper and shelf paper at the Dollar store a couple of weeks ago.  The two papers combined made four of the cutest July 4 placements.

Titled

This is a five minute project.  I used 2 rolls of shelf liner, one red checked and one blue checked plus two rolls of clear contact paper.  Each roll was $1.00 at the Dollar store.  Cut the shelf paper to the size you want your placemat, and the contact paper about 2 inches bigger than the shelf liner on each side.

Tools cut piece

Peal off the back of the contact paper and lay flat on a table.  Place and smooth the shelf liner on top.  Add second piece of contact paper to top.  Use pinking shears to trim the contact paper to I inch.

I’ve used this method for many years with kids coloring projects, Christmas or birthday wrapping paper, and scrapbook paper.  The possibilities are endless.

My project gallery has some other ideas for July 4 decorations.  Check it out to make these.

July 4 Ideas

Happy Monday and Happy July 1!  We are in some hot weather now and I’m loving it.  The 4th of July is only a few days away.  We’re planning a BBQ with neighbors which will include a big crab feed freshly caught.  Um yum!  What are you doing?

If you need any recipe or decorating ideas for your celebration here are a few I pulled from my July 4 Pinterest board.

A Little More Red, White & Blue: DIY Tray + Accessories

Happy 4th of July!   How will you be spending it?  I’ll be on the golf course watching my son in a tournament and hopefully I will have a golf cart instead of walking.  That’s a story of its own which I’ll share after I see the orthopedic surgeon next week.  Lets just say…major knee surgery.

I had a few more July 4th decorations I wanted to share with you.  I shared in a post last week of a tray with reversible liner.  I was crafting another tray at the same time.

DIY July Tray

I picked up a couple of green plastic trays for $3.00 each at Rite Aid a couple of months ago and they’ve been sitting in the garage ever since.  I grabbed my trusty reliable Rust Oleum Primer and Gloss White spray and gave it a few coats of each.

White Plain Tray

I had some scrapbook paper, red and white polka dot and blue check and some foam board.  I cut the paper into about 8 inch strips and glued them onto the pre-cut foam board alternating the 2 papers.  I also did another design on the other side of the foam board, then took it to Staples and had it laminated.

So that’s the tray.  And here’s a few extras to add to the decorations in addition to the July 4 Centerpiece.

DIY July 4 Table Decor

Here’s the breakdown…

  • patriotic nutcracker from Joanne Fabrics
  • napkins from the dollar store are actually dish towels but you need a big napkin sometimes for the ribs and corn on the cob!
  • plastic cups from the dollar store striped with colored scotch tape
  • red plastic bowl also decorated with colored scotch tape hold some festive mints all dressed up in patriotic colors
  • red checked paper plates from the dollar store
  • tray and centerpiece made with love

July 4 Centerpiece

Hi people :-)!  Hope you had a wonderful weekend.  I spent part of it inside because the rain just would not go away, but managed to work on a few things.  I’ll share some of that later this week.

Today was all about helping my son get his new computer up and running, buying new Samsung Galaxy 3 phones and creating a table centerpiece to celebrate July 4.

DIY Centerpiece

I really did this on the cheap.  Most of it was already in my crap craft closet except for the floral picks and headbands.

July 4 Centerpiece Supplies

You’ll also need some spray adhesive, spray paint and floral foam.  I used a green square floral foam and used a serrated knife to cut and round the edges so it would fit in the silver tin bucket.  Then I used the spray adhesive to glue the red shredded paper to the foam base.  I sprayed the branches with Rust Oleum paint; gloss white, gloss blue and apple red.  I basically crammed the branches once they were dry into the foam and then added the pics and star garland.  I slipped the headbands around the silver bucket leaving some of the tin color in between.  There you have it, quick and simple.  The tablecloth is actually a small quilted throw and the side you see is the liner.  Someone made it for me years ago.  Here’s a few more pics.

Patriotic Postcards & Other July 4 Inspiration

Happy Saturday and the last day of June.  Here in the Northwest the sun didn’t show itself very much this month.  Our summer weather usually kicks in beginning  July 1, so cross your fingers.  It’s early, 6is to be more exact, I’m having my morning cup of coffee, hubby and son {home again from FL for 3 weeks, and the puppy are still sleeping}.

This weekend I want to do a bit of red, white and blue decorating.  I already had the spray cans out yesterday.  I thought I would go to my Pinterest Board of July 4 Ideas.

I have fallen in love with patriotic / vintage postcards.
