DIY – Glossy Black Side Table

How’s everyone?  It’s hump day.  That always puts a smile on my face.  I stopped at a garage sale not too longs ago.  I scored 5 pillows, a wood tray and a mall table meant for the outdoors.  I needed a small table next to my chair in the living room and I decided this little gem would be perfect.

Before-After Collage

I picked the table up for $4.00 at a garage sale.  That cost plus a can of Rustoleum Glossy Black and it’s looking great as a side table .  The scrolls and petals are so finely molded and I’m really happy I went with a dark color.

To give the table top some stability I added a reversible tray liner I made previously and covered that with plexiglass cut to fit.

Have you been doing any spray painting lately?

Painting A Bench

Hi my friends.  It’s Monday night, I’m watching The Voice and thought I better get this post out.  I should of had it out for today but with such a beautiful weekend, time got away from me.  It’s like going grocery shopping when you’re hungry.  I wanted to accomplish so much and didn’t,oh well, there’s always next weekend.

My neighbors asked me if I would paint their white bench that’s been sitting out in the weather for awhile.  Bob tightened the screws on a couple of slats and gave it a quick sanding after Kathy washed it down.  I used Rust Oleum Hammered spray, white on the wood slats and copper on the rod iron trim.  We still need to add a coat of poly but since it’s on the porch it will be okay for now.

Spray Paint Animals

I was delayed today coming home from work.  It was raining cats and dogs and I had to work South today.  My 35 minute commute home turned into 1.5 hours.  The news said 3/4 inch of rain in the last 24 hours.  I need something to make me happy and I found it.  Yay, my favorite girls in blog land are having their final Spring link party today.  Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick is hosting a spray paint party.

Spray paint is my favorite thing.  I’m sharing a quick cute transformation.  This is the story of an elephant and a giraffe who met at Marshalls and became fast friends.  They were drawn to each other.  Never mind they had different shapes and sizes.  They bought it was awesome they were “dressed” the same.

Along came the frequent shopper of the clearance aisle.  That would be me and I couldn’t pass this pair up for $1.99 each.

I finally brought them out from the craft closet yesterday and gave them a fresh coat of white spray paint.  Perfect for the season, don’t you think?

Drab To Fab Vase

Hi Everyone!  I’ve gotten in this habit of checking out the clearance aisle of several stores each week and it’s paying off.  My 10 minute stops include Marshalls, TJ Max and Ross.  Last week I picked up this ugly brown stripe hard plastic vase at Marshalls for $3.50.

Mix Vase Branches Bedroom 002

I sprayed it with Rust Oleum’s primer for plastic , followed by a couple of coats of Rustoleum Heirloom White.  Here comes the fun part.  My husband worked clearing the gulley last week so I had lots of new branches to play with.  I sprayed a few white….love this.  Here’s the Before and After.

Nice transformation, right?  These pics were taken in my son’s bedroom who’s away at college.  I also took some of the vase and branches in my recently updated Spare Room.

Fall Walk – Being Creative with Tree Branches

Hi there!  Yes, I said tree branches.  They’ve been on my mind for awhile.  My hubby thinks I’m a little out there, if ya know what I mean.  I wanted to use them to create something ever since I was in Florida last August and went to my very first HomeGoods store.  That’s when I saw and fell in love with this.

IMAG0759-1

Beautiful, isn’t it?  Then, Kate from Centsational Girl shared an Autumn Accent post recently.  Kate was out and about and “spotted that cool moss covered nine foot tall branch at a local shop specializing in second hand midcentury decor”.  See for yourself – I fell in love with this branch.  I just thought it looked so cool.

autumn living room cg

So…..this morning when hubby, puppy and I went on our walk down along the park I picked up some branches and then when we got back home I picked up more in the greenbelt next to our house.  I know they aren’t huge and there’s multiple limbs, but I just thought I’d play around with them and see what would happen.

Fall Wreaths and Branches 001

I sprayed them randomly with Rust Oleum satin white and metal gold, not wanting to entirely cover the naturalness of the branches.  Then I put them in a tall green glass vase I had and put the vase behind the living room loveseat.  I will say it’s not the perfect container, but I really like the look of the branches. In fact, after I was done I found more branches, bigger and better which are now sitting on the side of my house.  I’m thinking this project could morph to something else.  For today though, I’m pleased as punch about the look.  What cha think?

Spare Room Project – A Mirror

The spare room project is coming along.  So far, I’ve moved a loveseat with hide-a-bed and ottoman into the room and decided on a color palette, see here.

Reveal – I’m painting the walls some type of yellow this weekend.  In the interim I’m working on a mirror project and wanted to share with you.  I’ve had this mirror for at least 15 years and for the last 10, its hung in my office at wok.  When I changed jobs and offices a couple of months ago I brought it home and it’s been in the garage ever since.  Poor mirror, it needed some oomph and since I am putting a lot of the aqua/turquoise/blue-green color into the room, spray paint became my friend again.

Here are the before and after pics.  Forgive the glare and the dirty mirror….

Tile Art 008-1 Aqua Mirror 011-1

There isn’t really any white on the mirror.  That’s glare.  You may be wondering what those big globs are in the one mirror pane?  Well, I had this idea and now not sure if I like it but will keep for a bit of time and then make decision.

The globs are lady bug 3-D stickers.  Kind of hard to see, but in person the visual is much better.  I love lady bugs and since they bring good luck I thought I would add them.  Here’s a closer look…

Aqua Mirror 018-1

What do you think of the lady bugs or do you have any ideas ho to add some pizzazz to this mirror project?

Take A Stroll Down "Green Apple" Lane

The days have been sunny and beautiful in the Pacific Northwest, the evenings cool down quickly.  The leaves are slowly falling from the trees, darkness comes sooner.  Fall is definitely upon us.

As I look back over previous posts I can certainly see my Spring and Summer obsession with spray paint and Rust Oleum Apple Green color.  Look below for a few of my favorites….see what I mean?  And then, take a look at what my new found color obsession is!

Sprucing Up the Lazy Susan

I wish I had a before picture.  Sadly I don’t.  You see, I was spray painting something else in the garage and my eyes wandered over to the box of items that didn’t sell at the all-city garage sale.  That’s where I found the storage box for the redo of the  3 Drawer Storage Box.  I also spotted a lazy susan.  You know, one of those laminate ones.  Before I knew it I had doused it with primer.  So sorry, no before picture but just pretend you have seen a photo of a light blonde colored, laminate, faded lazy susan from approximately 15 years ago.  Not a very pretty site.

I’m noticing a pattern with me and spray paint.  I don’t thoroughly think my plan before I  start so I sometimes tend to put on more spray paint and coats then needed.  Oh well, I’m having fun! 🙂

Okay, so after the primer I added a couple of coats of Rust Oleum apple green.

004  005

Then I decided to checkerboard it with the help of blue tape and white spray paint.

Here’s how it turned out…

I think it’s so cute, much better than the laminate lazy susan I started with.  There are so many different ways to use it.  A few of my ideas below.

How about desk organizer for  office supplies.

A cute lazy susan like this could also be very useful in the kitchen.

Make Over – 3 Drawer Storage Box

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Many years ago I was very attached to the fruit and vegetable themed kitchen.  During that timeframe I bought a 3 drawer storage box adorned with ugly little fruit, cherries and radish, among other things, painted on it.  Note: as of this picture I already had taken off the ugly little green knobs and wood filled the holes.  I only have one thing to say, WHAT WAS I THINKING?!

BEFORE

AFTER…

Craft Drawer and Yard 003 I think it turned out pretty cute.  Here’s what I did but let me just say, Thank You Rust Oleum.

I primed, then spray painted apple green.  I bought new would knobs from Michaels.

049 I didn’t like the knobs black so I sprayed them with the white primer and the apple green.

057  Then I used blue tape to stripe the boxes and once I did that I decided to use the black paint again and I ended up with a speckled effect on the knobs. Not one of the 3 knobs is exactly alike and I kind of like that.  I ended up doing the same kind of effect when I made the birdbath.
